You may have heard of a sea serpent, but it is unlikely you have actually seen one. That is because sea serpents are mythological creatures. Of course, plenty of "sightings" have occurred and photos supposedly taken, but it has never been proven that a sea monster actually exists, even partially serpentine.
It is interesting to hear the stories of
the sea serpent and there have been so many sightings for hundreds
of years it is hard to believe they are not real. In fact,
there have been more than one thousand sightings of a sea serpent
over the
years,
which is a lot for something that does not exist. The sea serpent
has been seen in many situations including by large groups
of people at one time, from the shore, from boats, and even
by well-known scientists.
Currently, there has never been any type of actual evidence that points to the existence of a sea serpent. However, with the many sightings of the sea serpent most scientists believe people truly are seeing "something", which in most cases is probably a whale or some other large sea animal that simply is misidentified in the water.
Of course, some people want to believe the sea serpent really exists and that it is similar to the Loch Ness Monster or other huge marine reptiles. Sea serpents have been around in the minds of people for so long that they exist in many books and historical accounts from many years back. This goes to show that people are seeing something when they claim to see a "sea monster." Even back to 1555 a Swedish writer wrote about sea serpents so surely there is something to the story. Right?
Along the east coast of the United States there have been sightings
of a sea serpent as well as in Norway, Greenland, Brazil, and
many other countries around the world. Some scientists believe
that the "sea serpent" that everyone sees is just
a giant eel or a giant squid. Most of the time the examples
of what the sea serpent "could be" do not jibe with
the characteristics of what was seen. Nevertheless, that is
part of the explanation to sea serpents
Another interesting explanation is that
people never saw anything alive at all. Instead, a strange
wave
phenomenon occurred that appeared to be a large, imposing
sea serpent. People who claim to have seen the sea serpent
do not go along with any of the explanations because they
know in their mind what they really saw.
Today, many people still claim to see a sea serpent in the water’s of the ocean as well as in large lakes across the world. Until actual physical evidence is found to prove the existence of a sea serpent it will go down in history as a mythological creature.
