Green Acropora
Green acropora species of coral are abundant among the coral reef systems across the worlds oceans. Like the makeup of other acropora corals, green acropora specimens feature a very dense, compact base although its skeletons and branches are both quite thin and light.
Green Acropora Very Fast Growing
Green acropora corals are only one of many different color varieties among acropora species- others include blue, pink, purple, orange and yellow. Often the majority of the green acropora is a yellow-brown color while its tips feature the most vivid and colorful hues. Easily one of the fastest growing corals currently in existence, green acropora corals feature branching polyps at the ends of its many branches that take advantage of nutrients provided by the entire reef system to fuel its rapid growth.
Geographic Preferences Among Green Acropora Corals
In the wild, green acropora are found in habitats that should be a picture of contradictions. Some green acropora corals thrive in areas of little to no light, while others require constant sunlight for survival. While some species of green acropora prefer dwelling in turbid waters, even more are found in high-wave zones.
Green Acropora Difficulty
These varying natural conditions would lead one to assume that green acropora are extremely hardy corals in captivity, easily adaptable to a wide range of conditions. It is hard to believe that green acropora corals are actually quite difficult to successful keep in home aquariums.
Green Acropora In The Reef Aquarium
Tips for sustaining the health of green acropora corals start by keeping tank conditions extremely stable. Because green acropora corals are sensitive to changes in their environment (temperature, chemical, environmental, sediment, placement), even small disturbances can stress the green acropora specimen and trigger illness or even death.
Green Acropora And Sediment
Since the acropora corals do not have the ability to effectively rid their bodies of excess sediment, its crucial that strong power heads or a wave maker is used in the tank where the green acropora specimen is contained. Good water circulation helps the green acropora to wash off the sediment naturally, therefore keeping the specimen healthy. Even the initial transport of green acropora corals can be risky because of their bulky shapes, leading their fragile branches to easily break. Diseases that the green acropora species are at particular risk for contracting include white band disease, black band disease, and rapid tissue necrosis, among others.
