Coral Reef Crabs

There are 1000s of species of Coral Reef Crab that live happily in Coral Reef Ecosystems. To be exact, there are nearly 5000 species of crab in which 4500 are true crab, while the other 500 are hermit crabs. Crabs usually are 10-legged creatures that walk sideways. They are invertebrate crustaceans that breathe underwater using gills, and they tend to have quite a pinch to them.

Coral Reef Crabs: Arrow Crab

From their triangular arrowhead shape, the Arrow crab is a very popular Coral Reef Crab. With a leg span of about 6-inches, they tend to have the appearance of a spider. They live among the Coral Reef and feed off of the small feather duster worms.

Coral Reef Crabs: Red Hermit Crab

The Red Hermit crab lives among the Coral Reef, even though it carries its real home on its back. The creature’s abdomen is very supple and exposed. To survive, it must protect itself by using discarded snail shells as its home. Feeding on about every organism they find, the Red Hermit crab is a very proficient scavenger.

Coral Reef Crabs: Anemone Crab

Another popular Coral Reef Crab, the Anemone Crab, is a small and colorful crustacean. It has a porcelain-like outer shell and has immunity to anemone stings from which it gets its name. This Coral Reef Crabs makes its home in the tentacles of anemone species.

Coral Reef Crabs: Purple Shore Crab

At about 2 inches long, the Purple Shore Crab seems like a pretty harmless Coral Reef Crab. This very beautiful species of crab has a white underbelly and a vivid purple and red shell. It tends to scavenge Coral Reef shores in search of algae and dead organisms.
