One of the most interesting and relaxing hobbies is creating and maintaining a home or office marine saltwater aquarium. Hundreds of types of corals and sea creatures are available to customize your tank to fit your own style. Reef aquarium fish can be some of the most colorful and playful creatures to add to your collection of animals.
Keeping a saltwater aquarium with healthy and happy reef aquarium fish does take some trial and error, as well as some research, to ensure that you have an effective tank environment. Keeping your fish healthy should be your primary concern. Proper seawater environments, reef corals and live rocks, and the correct types of food are all important for your marine reef tank.
There are literally thousands of types of reef aquarium fish that can live in your saltwater tank. Some of the more common types of reef fish are Clownfish, Angelfish, Dottyback, Butterflyfish, Seahorses, Tangs (Surgeonfish), Trigger Fish, Goby, Damsels, Basslets, Pufferfish and Sea Anemone. Each type of fish offers its own unique color, design and personality to your saltwater tank.
Setting up a home or office marine reef tank is like bringing home a new dog or cat, and requires the same type of preparation. This can include the aquarium itself, live rock, saltwater mix, multiple powerheads, an aquarium filter, saltwater fish food, an aquarium thermometer, protein skimmer, and a saltwater hydrometer. Reef aquarium fish will require a great habitat with plenty of nutritional food to ensure their health and well being in the tank.
It is important to note that there can be a few hazards when creating your home marine reef. Some species of reef aquarium fish don't necessarily get along, and it's important to know what types of fish are aggressive and what types are more passive and can live in groups in a confined area. Optimum water conditions, plenty of space, and good knowledge of the types of fish and coral you have can go a long way in creating a great habitat.
Keeping a healthy and happy marine reef aquarium can be both a relaxing and rewarding hobby. Getting in touch with helpful internet groups and reading books about the hobby will go a long way toward creating the best environment for your reef aquarium fish.
