Pink Ricordia
Pink ricordia can be found easily in the waters of the Caribbean, Pacific and Indian oceans, as its population is extremely large in these areas. Sometimes referred to as mushroom coral, false coral, mushroom anemone, pink yuma and flower ricordia mushroom, the pink ricordea is easily recognized among ricordea coral by its vibrant hues of pink that cover its body.
Pink Ricordia Appearance
Like other ricordea, the pink ricordias surface is pebbled with raised circular dots in contrasting shades of its main color- pink. The body of the pink ricordia is round and features short tentacles that resemble the shape of a berry at close range. Because the pink ricordeas coloring is intensified underneath the artificial lighting of an aquarium, the pink ricordea is extremely popular among aqua enthusiasts.
Pink Ricordia Lighting Conditions
Although the pink ricordia easily adapts to varying levels of light in an artificial environment, the pink ricordia should be acclimated to new levels of lighting when first transitioned into a tank. (Interestingly enough, the pink ricordea actually thrives under stronger levels of lighting than other colors.)
Pink Ricordia Placement
When it is time to place the pink ricordia in the tank, make sure it is gently placed low in the aquarium until the pink ricordia opens completely. Once this occurs, the pink ricordea can be moved to a more preferable location in the tank, keeping in mind that the pink ricordia prefers water flow to be maintained at low, steady movement. Adding trace elements such as iodine and strontium is a good idea to help ensure the health of the pink ricordia.
Pink Ricordia Diet
Pink ricordia do enjoy the occasional supplemental feeding, which can consist of micro-plankton, Cyclop-eeze (a biologically engineered microorganism), baby brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or other filter feeding foods. Otherwise, pink ricordia will naturally produce its own energy through the photosynthetic symbiotic algae, zooxanthellae that it hosts within its body tissue. Using natural and artificial light, the zooxanthellae will manufacture the necessary nutrients and energy the pink ricordia needs for its daily activities. It is up to you whether or not to provide your pink ricordia with additional nutritional supplements, although the pink ricordia do seem to thrive in captivity when provided the extra nutrients.
Pink Ricordia And Neighbors
One last tip for keeping a pink ricordia in an artificial environment, and thats in regards to other specimens. Although it may appear beautiful and mild, the pink ricordia can actually become aggressive when it feels threatened, so keep a safe distance between the pink ricordia and other corals and specimens.
