Ricordia Lighting

The most important thing for Ricordea husbandry is ricordia lighting. Since there are many different lighting options you can choose from it is important to make the decision after comparing the options and weighing the benefits and drawbacks of each. Deep below the surface the sunlight is still strong so the ricordia lighting in your aquarium really is important. During the recovery period it is important to care for the incision, but the Ricordia lighting is also quite important. Aquarium lighting is important during this process simply because the Ricordia Yuma do not tolerate as much light as the Ricordia Florida, for example. Generally, it is recommended to have the Ricordia Yuma and the Ricordia Florida separated for the best results because the ricordia lighting is different for both.

Recovery And Ricordia Lighting

This is most important during the recovery period. It was found that recovery was much faster under less intense light than what is normal at my facility.Ricordia Lighting.

Fragmenting And Ricordia Lighting

Generally, a 250 watt metal halide bulb would be used for the Ricordia Yuma before propagation. The coral would be about five inches below the surface and about a foot under the light. The light would mostly be indirect with it about one third of the distance to the side of the tank. However, the Ricordia Florida was mostly kept under direct light.

Placement Of Ricordia Lighting

Before propagation and after healing, this method of Ricordia lighting resulting in thriving coral. However, right after propagation the Ricordia Yuma cuttings were Ricordia Lighting Metal Halidekept on the far side of the tank.

Breeder Tanks And Ricordia Lighting

When setting up the Ricordia lighting I intentionally did not set up bulbs to shine directly on the grate to create some shade. The cuttings were moved to small breeder tanks on the side of the tank that were in the shade.

Ricordia Lighting And Water Flow

Many holes were drilled into the breeder vessel to ensure good water flow. If the propagated coral had been returned to the same spot in the tank they would not have done well. That is why it is recommended to reduce the light during the healing process. It may be difficult to keep this in mind simply because it is recommended to have strong ricordia lighting in most situations. However, just remember that during the healing process you will want to ensure that the light is reduced somewhat.

Charles Darwin wrong about coral reef formation?
Christian Science Monitor
Coral reefs are actually huge colonies of tiny animals that need sunlight to grow. After seeing a reef encircling Moorea, near Tahiti, Darwin came up with his theory that coral atolls grow as reefs stretch toward sunlight while ocean islands slowly ...
