If you are looking for a place that offers varied and numerous opportunities for scuba diving, Dubai and its attractions should be on your list. There are spots of unparalleled natural beauty in the area, and the Southeast Coast of the Persian Gulf also hosts a number of man-made sites worth visiting.
Wreck diving is one of the major attractions of the waters around Dubai. You can visit the MV Dara, a 120-meter long wreck just off the shore and a paradise for guitarfish, moray eels, barracuda and whale sharks. You can also choose to visit the 40-meter long Cement Barge, which is also at a stone’s throw from the beach – you can still see the cement bags that the ship was transporting and you can team up with clownfish, stingrays, barracuda, not to mention the amazing anemones that populate the area. There are numerous wrecks around 20 meters from the shore – the wreck of the Neptune, a 25-meter long vessel, is surrounded by three others within a few meters’ distance, with rich marine life, including various rays, congregating around them.
The area around Dubai consist mainly of sandy substrate, with the species and formations characteristic for this type of sea floor. However, when it comes to scuba diving, Dubai is more well-known for its artificial sites. There is a spot that you can very rarely see in the world: a car cemetery. About 15 years ago, a large quantity of wrecked cars were collected and dropped into the sea in an attempt to promote the development of marine life in the area, especially the development of coral reefs. The idea proved to be to the liking of marine creatures, too: they instantly populated the area and now the car cemetery is a diving spot brimming with marine animals, the most frequent visitors being trevally, barracudas, eagle rays, and even whale sharks.
Another artificial dive spot, Dubai’s underwater zoo provides a unique opportunity to dive under fully controlled circumstances. The huge tank is home to more than 30,000 different species, with more than 400 rays and sharks, including tiger sharks, zebra sharks, black tip and white tip sharks.
Dubai is unique in so many ways, and the diving opportunities it offers are also special. No need to keep wondering where to go scuba diving – Dubai is just on its way to becoming one of the most popular destinations, with incredible experiences in store for you.
