Cartagena Colombia

The Rich Historical Heritage of Cartagena in Colombia

With a rich history, relaxing pristine beaches and one of the major ports of Northern Colombia, the city of Cartagena has a great deal to offer its visitors. Founded in 1533, the city was known for a long time as Cartagena de Indias, and has gradually increased in importance during the Colonial era, as time went by.

Today, Cartagena is a thriving and growing urban area that attracts trade and tourism on a regular basis. It was reported to be home to more than a million inhabitants at the 2018 census, and its location provides it with a warm tropical climate featuring temperatures that rarely drop below 25-30 C.

Cartagena is known for its colonial architecture, impressive historical landmarks, as well as monuments and churches that have withstood the test of time. Some examples include the monument dedicated to India Catalina, the Walled City of Cartagena historical site and the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas.
